Mad About Food is the Junior League of Madison's first community cookbook. The book was designed not only to share hundreds of fabulous recipes, but also to give a glimpse of some of the many reasons we are "Mad about Madison." Throughout the book we have sprinkled morsels of "local flavor" to demonstrate why Madison consistently gets top billing as one of the country's most desirable places to live. We've also tried to give you a glimpse of how the Junior League of Madison works to make a measurable difference in our community.

Every year, the Junior League of Madison serves hundreds of area families by developing and supporting responsive, effective programs that empower women to make a difference in the lives of those around them. Dedicated Junior League members work diligently to serve the physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth needs of women and children by volunteering their time and talents, building local coalitions and raising funds.

But we are more than a volunteer organization. While working to better our community, we are also helping our members grow - personally and professionally. Junior League of Madison members learn to be effective, professional community volunteers, develop valuable friendships and find personal fulfillment. As a result, members become long-term contributors to the community.

In Mad About Food we hope readers find a few new favorite recipes to add to their own collection and a few good reasons to visit our city.

Cookbooks retail for $26.95 and can be purchased by contacting any Junior League of Madison member or by calling the Junior League office at 268-1414. You can also click the links below to download a Mad About Food order form as well as a cookbook fact sheet.

The Junior League of Madison is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International which is comprised of more then 200,000 volunteers in nearly 300 Leagues in four countries.

The top five reasons why Mad About Food could easily become everyone's new favorite kitchen companion:
  1. It features nearly 300 recipes that include both tried and true favorites (such as Garlic Mashed Potatoes) along with innovative new recipes that make use of fresh ingredients and innovative cooking techniques (such as Mediterranean Tapenade). It also includes some treasured recipes from local restaurants including Restaurant Magnus, Cafe Continental, the Madison Club and many more.
  2. All recipes have been triple-tested to ensure excellent results and superb flavor.
  3. It will include a nutritional analysis of most recipes as well as other helpful information about the selections (Is it freezable? Does it take extra time to prepare? Can it be made quickly?)
  4. It is sprinkled with local flavor that gives you a glimpse of why Madison, Wisconsin is consistently rated a top city for everything from the #1 Best Place to Live in America (Money Magazine, July 1998) to #1 Best College Sports Town (Sports Illustrated on Campus, September, 2003).
  5. It includes over 100 chef's tips that will make the novice cook look like a seasoned chef and will arm even the most accomplished "foodies" with creative, new cooking techniques that will add pizzazz to your culinary repertoire.

All proceeds from the book will go toward programs supported by the Junior League of Madison in its effort to ensure that women and children in the Greater Madison community have opportunities and services essential for their physical, intellectual, emotional, mental and social growth.
