The Junior League of Madison is made up of nearly 300 women from the Dane County area ranging in age from 21 to 75.  The membership consists of a wide range of backgrounds with many different interests and skills, with a similar goal to improve the quality of life in the community.  Internationally, the Junior League has almost 300 Leagues in four countries with more than 200,000 members.

The Madison chapter of the Junior League was founded in 1988, and nationally, in New York City in 1901.  Eleanor Roosevelt played an important role as a member in the early years. Many other well-known community leaders have been members of the Junior League over the years including the current First Lady, Laura Bush, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Shirley Temple-Black, Betty Ford, and Katherine Hepburn.

 

Our long history of successful community advancement through education and charity is the result of both our local efforts and our affiliation with the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), which is made up of nearly 300 Junior leagues in four countries involving more than 200,000 volunteers.

The Junior League of Madison serves hundreds of area families by developing and supporting responsive, effective programs that empower women to make a difference in the lives of those around them. League members work diligently to serve the physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth needs of women and children by volunteering time, building local coalitions and raising funds.
